Indonesia Tourist Visa

Visa in Indonesia is one of the most ridiculous and confusing system that I have experience. Especially with work visa, spouse visa, and much more! However if you wanna come to Indonesia for less than 30 days, you can get a visa-on-arrival (VOA) at the airport you land on. Let me enlighten you with the Indonesian Tourist Visa..

First, there is no incoming form in Indonesia. They cut that out a while back. So when you're in the airplane, they will give you a custom form to fill. It's a pretty simple form.
This is the ONLY form you will need to enter Indonesia. Things you will need so you can go past immigration easily before flying to Indonesia:
Custom form - front view

Custom form - back view

1. A valid passport (duh..) - this is pretty standard. Make sure it's valid for at least 90 days from your departure date and make sure it has blank pages.

2. Custom card (shown here) - you will get this either in the airplane or at the airport. Please do at least ask the stewardess for this form if not given to you cuz the airports in Indonesia are chaotic and you might not be able to spot or find the form lying around at the airport.

3. Return ticket - this is not compoulsory but sometimes you will get that random person at the immigration who will ask for it. So it's good to have. If you don't want to book your ticket yet or unsure when you're flying back, just book the ticket and screenshot the booking. Don't pay. You can show the bookings through your phone or print it.

So Let's talk about the different tourists visa available.

1. Visa on Arrival (VOA) - Tourist Visa 30 days (free)

This is a 30 day non extendable single entry visa that you can get at major airports like Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya, etc. Most passports can obtain this visa (140 countries to be exact) but please do check if you are one of the few who can't.

2. Tourist Visa extendable (>30 days) ($35USD)

Yes, you can get this at the embassy or at the airport too. Remember, at the airport, you will have to find and queue at the VOA Payments counter first. A lot of tourists doesn't realise this. After the payment counter, you queue up again at the Immigration area for foreigners counter. So you will have to queue TWICE. Remember this cuz if you queue at the wrong line and come straight to immigration and asked for the extendable one, they will ask you to queue again from the start at the payments counter.

The queue in Indonesia is ridiculous with usually only a few counters open. So be prepared to be patience.

Note:

Remember, the day of arrival is counted as Day 1 and day of departure is counted as 1 day. So count precisely and you won't have any problems.

Before the 30 days expired, you will need to get the visa extended at the immigration office in the city where you land. So for e.g. if you land in Bali, then you will have to extend it at the immigration office in Bali.
There are a lot of agents now in Bali that have the service to help you extend your visa for a fair price if you aren't in the mood. Have a look around, there are literally zillions of them.

- They will sometimes ask for your purpose in Indonesia. If they think or know that you are coming for business purpose, they will sometimes make you get the second option, which is the $35USD extendable visa. Even though you are there for only 1 meeting. They don't care. So be prepared.

- The $35USD paid at the VOA Payments counter is CASH-ONLY. They accept foreign currency (rate varies everyday). However, the change you will get is ONLY in Indonesian Rupiah.

That's all for now. Pop in any questions you have and I will gladly reply a.s.a.p!
Thanks a lot for reading!
