Pets in Indonesia

So you want to have a cat, a dog, a mouse, a rabbit.. or even a snake ? and you are in Indonesia.. what to do..?

Where to buy?: It's really not that hard to get a pet in Indonesia. Like, really. Compared to what I used to experience with registration, micro-chipping, desexing and all in Aussie, here in Indonesia, you don't need to do all that. You can find animals for sale in petshops across the cities, flyers in pet salons or else, or  even by word of mouth. There is NO such thing as pet registrations or micro chipping here. Desexing is also not mandatory. There are no requirements here regarding to pets. Hair salons and vaccinations are at a pretty decent price.

Washing, grooming, vaccinations: To get some ideas, here in Solo, I wash and groomed my Maltese at Happy Pets (Address: Jl. Raya Grogol 74) for Rp. 60,000 (wash) and Rp.70,000 (wash and groom). It's a bit more expensive than the other salon here but I've been using their service for quite a while now and no complains so far. They have their vets ready at the clinic as well, which is a bonus if I have questions regarding my baby. But there are literally tons of hair salons and grooming areas in Indonesia so I won't worry for that.

Back in Surabaya, most of the people I know use a housecall grooming service. The price in Surabaya is quite similar to the one here in Solo. Around Rp. 50,000 (for small dog) all the way to Rp.100,000+ (for large dog) for a wash.

WIth vaccinations, it was pretty cheap from Rp. 10,000+ - all the way up.. depending on what vaccines your pet is having. No need to fret. Vaccinations and flea treatments here are surprisingly complete.

Food: For good quality dog or cat food and treats like Royal Canin, you can get them at pet shops or the vets. If you are just looking for Pedigree cat or dog food, you can get them at all the supermarkets and even AceHardware Store.

Accessories: Toys, blankets, beds, leash, cages can all be bought from the vet clinic, grooming place, salons, or even some supermarket and hardware store. The selections here in Indonesia is not as diverse as what I was used to but it will do.
If you are in Surabaya, go visit Pakuwon Trade Centre (Supermall), they have a few pet salons, grooming and accesories stores on the ground floor.

Dog Hotel: Some pet salon and grooming place offers this service. I've used this service a few times when we have to be out of town for a couple of dats. The price is quite reasonable. I paid around Rp.45,000/night for mine. (You will have to bring your own food)

Before I sign off, let me introduce you to our baby family member:

Hi, this is Bam-Bam. Not sure why and how we came about naming him this but we came up with his name in the taxi in Jakarta and the name is stuck now.
So Bam-Bam is a long story cut short. Jeff's relatives had a maltese that was put up for sale (around 2 month old last time) that they couldn't care for no more. They brought him to Jeff's workplace and his googly eyes and cute face caught Jeff's heart and the rest is now history. We got him back in early 2015.. so not sure about his real age cuz his papers were lost.. I know, it's sad. But we did the maths - born somewhere end of 2014, we adopted him in Feb 2015. So, he is almost 2 years at the end of the year. So yeah..
